Since the collapse of ISIS in 2018, many dynamics related to violent extremism persist in Syria. IMPACT’s research unit is engaged in an ongoing analysis of the context that allowed ISIS to gain power. As well as this, we offer preventative recommendations to ensure the caliphate does not re-emerge.

Al-Hol Camp: Release, Return, and Reintegration of Syrian residents

As of March 2021, at least 61,000 remain in the Al-Hol camp in Northeast Syria (NES). Residents are gradually being released, however, re-integration into society is a major obstacle to the region’s stability.
